There are two ancient symbols in the name of our city. They are "AR" which stands for the Earth and "RA"-the Sun. And though Karaganda from Kazakh means, "Black city" it means just it is situated on a gigantic coal hills. People here are nice. We are always glad to host people and want to have more new and faithful friends. We will be happy to host people in the hotels of highest quality and also in families at the restaurants and at families' parties. Karaganda is not a huge city as it has only 600.000 inhabitants. Our city is very calm and if you hate noise then Karaganda is just ideal place for you. Our women are very friendly and easy to get along with.

Karaganda City (pop. 1995 est.: 574,000), central Kazakhstan. The first settlement appeared in 1856, and small-scale coal mining began the next year. Mining expanded rapidly in the early 1930s, and it was made a city in 1934. Kazakhstan’s second-largest city, it consists of the old town, which grew up haphazardly around more than 20 mining settlements, and the new town with the cultural and administrative center, which includes a university and medical and polytechnic institutes.

Fantasy World
So read, come and try. There are various sideshows there such as "The Room of Horrors", "Flying to the skies". The titles speak for themselves. If you get hungry you can get here various salads, cold and hot snacks etc. Just follow my advice. After having had a good dinner do not go into merry-go -round carrousels. I advise it to you in order to escape sudden surprises from your stomach.
Do you feel sad and blue? You are not any more if you come here and you will have a lot of impressions after visiting here. It does not only take the breath away sometimes you just cannot breathe. Welcome to Fantasy - the embodiment of your dreams.
Nurken Abdyrov Park
The proud of Karaganda is a monument to a hero of the Soviet Union, a pilot (repeating exploit of N. Gastello) that stands in Nurken Abdyrov prospect. For those who do not know about this exploit my following comment. N. Abdyrov was a pilot during the World War 2. One day when he carried out the military order and all bombs and cartridges were used he saw an enemy's column with gasoline and ammunition moving to headquarters. He had nothing to attack the enemy with so he decided to aim his plain just into the center of that column. So nobody could save including N. Abdyrov. After his death he was nominated the Hero of the Soviet Union. Such brave men lived in our city.
In his honor the monument was erected and the alley leading to it was given his name too. That means that Kazakh people love and cherish their history. You also will stroll in this l place with your girl. I am sure she will tell you much more about this wonderful place.
Circus, Central Department Store, Bazaar.
There are 3 wonderful places of interest in the center of Karaganda. You will get a lot of impressions. The circus itself is an exciting place. Very often ropewalkers show their abilities and it takes the breath away only while looking at them. They walk very high and without securing. Bazaar. Have you ever seen the Russians doing shopping? If not you lost a lot. Our women are strong and of great endurance. They can carry 20-30- kg in their bags and that does not influence their bearing. At the ready made clothes bazaars it is much more interesting. Some times you cannot guess who is going in front of you behind a huge shopping bag but coming nearer you see well a tiny woman.
Women work at bazaars to earn their own and their children's life while their husbands stay at home and drink beer. That is the way we live. The prices are lower in the bazaars so you can find here a cute thing for a low price. It can be labeled that is made in Italy, Germany or the U.S.A. But please do not believe it as most of the clothes are made in Kazakhstan. Central Department Store. It is more comfortable here. The goods are the same but the prices are much higher. But you can find here the national costumes, ornaments, gowns, and souvenirs. I think that any of you would like to purchase a souvenir from our country. You are welcome to this store department.
The Palace of Miners, Central Park, Miner's Glory Monument.
The Central Park has spread over several kilometers. It is surrounded by green trees, which create a pleasant cool during the hot local summer. This park is the favorite place for lovers. They are easy to identify as they walk slowly taking each other's hands. It seems there is no power in the world to hamper this idyllic. Do you want to feel the same? Then bring your girl here and "welcome, the pleasant moments". There is a lake in the center of the park.
You can have a swim there too. Do not forget a bathing suit with you, as it is not a nudist beach. At the central entrance to the Park there is a Miner's Glory monument. As you know Karaganda lies on a huge coal-bed and this monument is a symbol of Karaganda. The pictures taken on its background look splendidly. I advise you to take a camera with you and to take a picture of it. Opposite the Monument there is the Miner's Palace.
